Civic Forum participants discussed the loss of farmland and in particular, the loss of "traditional commodity crops" (e.g. tobacco) as significant in Rockingham County. However, they also discussed the recent establishment of specialty, niche crops such as grapes and hops, and the value-added products of wine, beer and spirits being a significant strength in the county - as it grows into the new economy.
