We must move from storm water retention to storm water infiltration. Examples are pervious pavement vs. concrete and asphalt; Bio-Infiltration vs. Bio-retention and storm water ponds. Storm water retention does not put water back into the ground where it can be naturally filtered. Infiltration allows the groundwater systems to regenerated and will help reduce the impacts of heavy rains on downstream erosion and flooding.
